Help Find David Mow

On Wednesday night the 21st of July David Mow went to his local ATM machine and withdrew eighty dollars. Early the following morning he sent a cheerful text to his fiance. No one has seen or heard from him since. David, his vehicle, and cellphone vanished.

Mr. Mow, 56, is a highly regarded building contractor in San Diego and beloved resident of the North Park area. Known as a "creature of habit" to those close to him, the circumstances surrounding his dissapearance are considered highly unusual. David may suffer from an undiagnosed illness that had caused him to lose consciousness some months earlier.

MV Rachel Corrie Seized

By Larry Johnson
PostGlobe politics reporter. The Israeli military seized the aid ship MV Rachel Corrie early this morning, preventing the delivering of over 1000 tons of medical and construction supplies to besieged Gaza.

The Free Gaza Movement said all the passengers “are believed to be unharmed.”

The Rachel Corrie carried 11 passengers and 9 crew from 5 different countries, mostly Ireland and Malaysia. The passengers included Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Maguire, Parit Member of the Malaysian Parliament Mohd Nizar Zakaria, and former U.N. Assistant Secretary General, Denis Halliday.

On Monday elite Israeli military commandos stormed six humanitarian aid ships taking part in the ‘Freedom Flotilla’ to Gaza, killing at least 9 civilian passengers and injuring dozens more while the ships were in international waters. The Rachel Corrie was part of the flotilla but had to stay behind in Malta for repairs.

Ecuador v. Chevron v. Free Speech

By Bill Moyers and Steven Winship
Even as headlines and broadcast news are dominated by BP's fire-ravaged, sunken offshore rig and the ruptured well gushing a reported 210,000 gallons of oil per day into the Gulf of Mexico, there's another important story involving Big Oil and pollution -- one that shatters not only the environment but the essential First Amendment right of journalists to tell truth and shame the devil.

(Have you read, by the way, that after the surviving, dazed and frightened workers were evacuated from that burning platform, they were met by lawyers from the drilling giant Transocean with forms to sign stating they had not been injured and had no first-hand knowledge of what had happened?! So much for the corporate soul.)

Massey Violations

Apr. 7--BECKLEY -- Over the past 10-plus years, the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration has issued more than 500,000 citations and orders at all underground bituminous coal mines in the United States.

Of those, 11 percent have been issued at Massey Energy's 42 underground mines, and 0.4 percent have been issued at the Upper Big Branch mine in Raleigh County, operated by Massey subsidiary Performance Coal Co., where an explosion Monday left 25 miners dead and four missing.

So far this year, MSHA has issued a total of 20,232 violations at all underground mines, including 2,315 at Massey mines and 124 at Upper Big Branch with proposed penalties of $188,769.

Coffee or Tea?

The Tea Party movement has been on the scene now for a while garnishing headlines on the cable news networks, endorsing or criticizing conservative candidates, and calling for most incumbents running for re-election this year to be toppled.

A new group started recently is taking a different approach and seems to be growing rapidly. They call themselves The Coffee Party and hope to represent those who also feel frustrated by congressional politics but, are not comfortable with the Tea Party agenda.
